With over three decades of unleashing sonic blasphemy, the French MERRIMACK have solidified their place as one of the most relentless forces in European black metal. Formed in 1994, they emerged from the Parisian underground scene with a clear purpose: to create raw, dark, and uncompromising music. Inspired by the second wave of norsk black metal, they quickly defined their own identity, marked by a ritualistic approach and dense atmospheres. Their debut «Ashes Of Purification» in 2002 revealed a merciless and fierce sound, cementing their reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the extreme metal scene. Since then, they have released five studio albums, including the acclaimed «Omegaphilia» (2017), which showcased their ability to balance dark melody with overwhelming aggression. With lyrics exploring themes of anti-religion, occultism, and nihilism, the band maintains an austere and provocative aesthetic. Known for their intense and ceremonial performances, MERRIMACK are set to bring a show filled with darkness and chaos to SWR 2025, reaffirming their status as guardians of black metal tradition.
