Hailing from Olympia, Washington, MORTIFERUM have established themselves as one of the most consistent forces at the intersection of death and doom metal, operating within a language that privileges weight (and they truly mean it), atmosphere and a near-liturgical sense of progression. Their music moves between slow, crushing passages and bursts of controlled violence, in a dynamic that balances density and aggression with surgical precision. Following the initial impact of "Disgorged from Psychotic Depths" (2019) and the confirmation provided by "Preserved in Torment" (2021), the band consolidated an identity marked by simple yet deeply effective riffs, dissonant harmonies and an organic sonic construction, where each rhythmic and melodic variation unfolds with purpose and intent. The influence of classic death/doom is evident, but handled with a compositional awareness that avoids redundancy and reinforces immersion. Rumour has it that a new album is on the verge of release, and that Barroselas may hear some of those cavernous echoes firsthand. After their barbaric and ritualistic performance three years ago became one of the most memorable in the festival’s rich history, expectations for this edition are off the scale.
