UNLEASHED

Sweden
  • Day 3

In the beginning there were a bunch of thugs in Stockholm who took hardcore and D-beat like cough drops. Throw in some Sodom or Destruction albums and they formed bands with names as old as they were legendary, like Morbid, Carnage and Nihilist. It was in this context that Leffe Cuzner lowered the tuning of his guitars to a menacing C# and connected them to the infamous Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal. When these mythical bands disbanded and reformed, the first pillars of Swedish death metal emerged. Together with Entombed, Grave and Dismember, UNLEASHED helped define that dense, violent and unmistakable sound that emerged from Stockholm in the early 90s. But while many of their contemporaries were experimenting in other directions, Unleashed always stayed true to their roots. Led by the charismatic Johnny Hedlund, over more than three decades they have explored a Nordic mythology full of battles, honour and warrior spirit, without ever losing their ferocity. Classics such as “Where No Life Dwells” (1991) and “Shadows in the Deep” (1992) are cornerstones of the genre, but the band has continued to build a solid discography, as the latest “No Sign of Life” (2021) demonstrates so well. It's another legendary and relentless name visiting Barroselas. We can't wait.
