VASTUM represent death metal at its most filthy and confrontational. Hailing from San Francisco and featuring several familiar faces in their line-up, including forward-thinking musicians whose work spans across several scenes such as the incredible Leila Abdul-Rauf, the band blend cavernous riffs, grinding rhythms and a suffocating atmosphere into a sound that’s as oppressive as it is violent. Rooted in the old school, for sure, but twisted into something darker and more disturbing, as you would expect from those involved. Across releases like “Carnal Law”, “Hole Below” or “Patricidal Lust”, Vastum have built a reputation for music that feels ritualistic, hostile and deeply uncomfortable. When they perform live, there’s no escape once the set begins, so in April, Barroselas will be pulled into the abyss.
