One of the main products that keep popping out of Portugal’s fertile soils is of course raw black metal, and VENTR entered that crowded arena a few years ago, formed by a couple of dudes that you might know from other rodeos. Last year saw the release of their long-awaited debut, “Ubique Diaboli Voluntas”, and just as expected it was an avalanche of abrasive riffs and primitive rhythms polluted by a hostile atmosphere that puts intensity above all else. This is black metal stripped to the bone – ugly, aggressive and confrontational, as it should be. Ventr’s music is driven by urgency rather than complexity, you’re beaten to the ground by repetition and attitude, creating songs that feel immediate and dangerous, with no room for polish or comfort. Live, they keep that same energy intact, as you will surely attest to in a couple of months.
