As such, we would like to thank everyone, whom in one way or another, have helped this festival grow: the audience, artists and staff. For many years the quiet village of Barroselas has served as stage to a strange phenomenon, as thousands of heavy metal fans from all around the world dress in black for their annual pilgrimage towards northeastern Portugal for SWR Barroselas Metalfest, one of the oldest festivals dedicated exclusively to extreme music. Happening from the 28th until the 30th of April, the festival celebrates in 2017 it's 20th edition. Among the fifty bands confirmed for the three indoor stages are artists such as Mayhem, playing their magnum opus De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, plus Venom Inc, Aborted, Master, Extreme Noise Terror, Inquisition, Akercocke, Oranssi Pazuzu or Dead Congregation.

For the toughest ones, a warm up is taking place on the 27th of April at the SWR Arena, a free entrance stage where the finals of the Portuguese Wacken Metal Battles take place with Brazilian grindcore act TEST headlining the pack. Throughout the festival the entrance for the Arena remains free and is curated by the festivals Otero Brutal Fest, in Oviedo, Milhões de Festa, in Barcelos, and Portuguese labels Signal Rex, Raging Planet and HellDProd.

Three months to go until the 20th edition of SWR Barroselas Metalfest, happening from the 28th until the 30th of April 2017 at the quiet Village of Barroselas, northern Portugal. Confirmed for the festival are bands such as Mayhem, Venom Inc, Aborted, Extreme Noise Terror, Master, Inquisition, Akercocke, Oranssi Pazuzu or Dead Congregation, and the daily lineup has just been revealed and may be consulted on the image below. Yet to be confirmed are more than 20 bands for the third stage of the festival, a small festival inside the festival with free entrance.

SWR Barroselas Metalfest has just announced ten new acts that close its main stages and will join forces with bands like Mayhem, Aborted, Akercocke and many others. Leading the pack are Venom Inc and Extreme Noise Terror, integral part of the root of extreme metal, plus Inquisition, Dead Congregation, Nader Sadek, Corpus Christii, Antichrist, Grog, The Arson Project and Marginal.

En route to its twentieth edition, happening from the 28th until the 30th of April 2017 at the quiet village of Barroselas, SWR Barroselas Metalfest has just announced ten new acts that will join forces wiith bands such as Mayhem, Aborted or The Ruins of Beverast. Among new confirmations are british death metal act Akercocke, who've just returned from a 4 year hiatus; Master, whose classical albums and 30 years of blasting death metal have made worthy of their name; peculiar act Oranssi Pazuzu; historic portuguese death grinders Holocausto Canibal; Pillorian, a brand new band from the ashes of Agalloch, cult black metal acts Cobalt, Darvaza and Fides Inversa, scandi crusters Gust and Teutonic death doomers Valborg. Yet to be confirmed for the festivals three indoor stages are more than thirty bands, exhibits, talks and dj sets. SWR Barroselas Metalfest, one of the oldest european festivals focused entirely on extreme music, returns in 2017 for its 20th anniversary, scheduled for 28, 29 and 30 of April at the Village of Barroselas, northern Portugal. Confirmed so far are black metal legends Mayhem playing their magnum opus "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas", Belgium death metal squad Aborted plus The Ruins of Beverast, Avulsed, Nashgul, Lich King, Warfect, GoldenPyre, Besta and Steelharmonics, the local philarmonic band playing covers of Heavy Metal classics. X-mas packs containing 3-day ticket, t-shirt, bag, cup and 3 steel tokens will be put on sale during November for 70€

Alright folks, we're now done covering the 19th edition of SWR and it was awesome! No rain, no big issues, great shows and a smooth ride through 4 days of extreme metal music and communion among peers.
